Bamburgh, an archetypal "estate village" governed by the splendid Castle offers tea rooms, pubs, a deli, restaurants and a walled garden grocery/veg shop and the renowned Carters Butchers.

Beaches that stretch for miles, clean, sandy and unspoilt. The nearest one: just 50 yards from our back door.

Castles that tower from rocky outcrops and nestle in the heart of beautiful countryside - the nearest just 100 yards from our garden gate.

Birdwatching on the Farne Islands or diving and watersports - Just  down the coast at Seahouses you can get a tourist boat or specialist tour to see Puffins (May-July), a wide variety of other birds and our resident breeding colony of Grey Seals.

Cycling (secure storage in our inner courtyard), walking, riding, golf and kite-surfing just a few more of the leisure pursuits that you can indulge in on your visit.  Or do the touristy stuff, visit Alnwick - see the wonderful Garden and yet another castle, Visit Holy Island, its priory and yet another castle.

The busy village of Seahouses 2 miles south, has for many years been the hub of the fishing industry, now in decline it is turning its resources to tourism.

Gateway to the Farne Islands, it is also the base of Swallow Fish, the villages last remaining smoke house. The area's main Tourist Information Centre, 3 fish and chip shops, amusements and the nearest supermarket (Co-op) as well as a number of specialist shops and the National Trust shop.

Inland visit Rothbury a bustling market hill town and home to Cragside the first to be lit by hydro electric power. Wooler at the foot of the Cheviot Hills another market town with a variety of independent shops and the gateway to the Cheviot Hills and great walking country.

For the kids, visit Potadoodledo activity centre near Berwick, or the Tree House at Alnwick Garden , but you just won't be able to beat reliving your youth rock-pooling and sandcastle building just yards from the cottage.

Perhaps you'd rather have a "pamper afternoon" at the Ocean Club Seahouses, whilst the gym and pool are members only, you are welcome to book in for spa treatments and therapies.

There is just so much to see and do, our welcome folder at the cottage has details of more, and a host of leaflets from the local attractions.
